A good review and a great restaurant gets better

Aviva and I have always loved Fleming’s Steak House.  We got there pretty regularly, like once a quarter or so.  Aviva loves the steaks, I love the tuna, we both love the service and the martini’s don’t suck either :-)

A few months back I had written a review on Yelp!  I’ve done that >80 times, so no big deal there.  But the GM of our local Fleming’s noticed it and wrote to thank me for the kind words.. and oh yea, offer us dinner for 2 as a thank you for my putting them on Yelp!

The Cheesecake Factory will remain #1, but Fleming’s is making it interesting..

Red pine trees outside autumn are a bad sign..

We were in Frisco, CO last weekend, visiting some friends and went on a hike.  It was horrifying to see how many trees were red, considering fall isn’t for months.  I read the papers and knew what was going on - the pine beetle infestation had hit some areas of trees, the damage was all too apparent.  It’s sad to see and they are cutting down lots of trees to cut off the movement of these pesky insects.  When you read the wikipedia link I posted, it’s saddening to see how devastating these little critters are.

Is global warming to blame?  Perhaps.  These beetles are often killed off with a prolonged cold spell - which winter usually does well.  However, winters haven’t been as cold, allowing the beetles to live on and reproduce.  I took a few pics and you can see the brownish/red pine trees.. thankfully, these beetles don’t eat the lovely Aspen Trees , which are all that might be left.
