Another sad loss..
Saturday AM, we all pile in the car to run some errands, I tune into my local jazz station (in the Pilot, my car has XM), 104.3 and am listening to a bunch of sports guys talk about sports?!?!!? I check the dial.. did I get the station wrong on the dial? no.
I take out my Blackberry, use their so-so browser and head over to their site, where I saw that SmoothJazz Denver is no more!! ARGH!! I’m really suffering, the rest of our local radio here in Denver, as in most cities, sucks. s-u-c-k-s.
I’ll miss you smoothjazz denver, this may very soon get us to put satellite in the pilot too.. howard (stern) is right, terrestrial radio is awful. SmoothJazz Denver had a great selection of music, sponsored some real good local jazz concerts.. I’m at a loss here – WHY!? I’m sure it was economics.. as they said
“We are sad to announce that Smooth Jazz will no longer be available on the 104.3FM frequency. Due to declining audience ratings over the past couple years combined with a decline in advertising support from our clients, we had no choice but to make the difficult decision to remove the Smooth Jazz format from the 104.3 frequency.”
I can stream it to my PC, but that doesn’t help me when I drive around. I know they were owned by Lincoln Financial, so I guess the beancounters no longer liked the fiscal direction of their business.. such a pity. Maybe I need to just carry my iPod in the car?
They talk lots about still being on HD-radio, I don’t know a single person who owns a car or listens to HD radio. Which, by the way, is anything but “HD” radio – it’s digital, but satellite is higher quality, sorry.
– RIP
