While watching the US Open last night, it really dawned on me how much more great sports I get to see because I live in the Mountain time zone. I got to thinking about all the sports that I can now enjoy, simply because of this 2 hour time difference from EST. I used to live in NY, so recall all the sports I would regularly miss because I go to bed at a somewhat early hour (in the 9:30-10AM range).
- Basketball – The NBA playoffs and NCAA “big dance” are sports I used to see a fraction of, maybe a quarter or the first half of NBA and for the NCAAs, a piece, but especially the final game, again, a half at best
- Baseball – The playoffs and world series often start at like 8:30PM EST, so unless it was the Mets in a big game, I’d miss the end. In MST, I get to not only watch the whole game, I get to go to sleep on schedule
- Football – This is the best. Sundays, instead or waiting until 1PM EST for kickoff, by 11:15AM, the games are off and running.. the 2nd games end by 4-4:30PM, allowing some time before dinner. Of course, this is all secondary to sunday and monday night football, where I can now watch the entire game!
- College Football – BCS bowl games in prime time – I’m there!
I wonder what it would it would be like to live in PST, but I know lots of shows are played there in the same time as EST, just locally, so I think MST is the perfect blend…
