Nothing better, as summer approaches, than watermelon.  But it can really go in a number of directions:

  1. It needs to be ripe, which isn’t easy to tell
  2. I prefer it cold
  3. I hate when they say “seedless” and it has black seeds.  I expect a few (or many) white ones, but more than 5 or 6 black ones, and i’m annoyed
  4. I also hate when it’s all ruby red, but has no taste – see point 1
  5. You need to drain out the juices on a daily basis, it makes the watermelon mealy
  6. Mealy is tough, it can be tolerable, but more often than not, it ends up in my disposal

Welcome to watermelon season!
